English Department

Welcome to the English department. We are committed to the growth of our students’ language skills–speaking, writing and reading–and love of literature.

Our goals are aligned with the Common Core Standards.  The standards ensure that graduating seniors are college and career ready. Students will be able to perform the critical reading necessary to extract and analyze information from texts.  They will be able to develop evidence-based claims and will be able to construct arguments based on reason and evidence from sophisticated sources. At the end of eleventh grade, all students must take the Regents Examination in English Language Arts (Common Core).  Students must pass this exam and four years of English in order to graduate.
