A Faraday pouch is a district-issued signal-blocking pouch that securely stores personal electronic devices throughout the school day. It also serves as the student's school ID holder.

Students keep the pouch and their devices in their possession throughout the instructional day.

Students must secure all internet-enabled personal electronic devices, including:

• Cell phones
• Smartwatches
• AirPods and earbuds
• Other internet-enabled personal electronic devices

Devices must be placed in the assigned Faraday pouch before the first instructional bell and remain secured until the end of the instructional day.

No. Suffern High School maintains a bell-to-bell distraction-free learning environment. Personal electronic devices must remain secured throughout the instructional day, including lunch, study halls, and passing time.

Yes. Students keep their phones in their assigned Faraday pouch throughout the school day. The device remains in the student's possession but must stay secured until dismissal.

Students may request permission to use a telephone in the Main Office.

If an emergency occurs, school staff will provide students with access to communication as appropriate. Families should continue to contact the Main Office if they need to reach their child during the school day.

Students with documented medical needs, an Individualized Education Program (IEP), a Section 504 Plan, or another approved accommodation will continue to receive the supports outlined in their approved plan.

Students who arrive without their assigned pouch must report to the Main Office before first period. Their personal electronic device(s) will be secured in the Main Office for the instructional day.

Students are responsible for caring for district-issued equipment. Lost or intentionally damaged pouches may result in a replacement fee in accordance with district procedures.

Staff will remind students of the expectations. Repeated violations may result in disciplinary consequences in accordance with the Student Code of Conduct. 

Yes. Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) has been eliminated.  Students will use district-issued technology for instructional purposes unless a documented educational or medical accommodation has been approved.

Students may access their personal electronic devices once the instructional day has ended.
